Eater, Teen Vogue, Put This On
A few months ago, New York Magazine invited a bunch of media executives to descend from their ivory tower about the issues facing their industry. A common refrain: their employees. The unions are too activist, they’re haven’t delivered anything to members, no one wants to work, they’re taken control of the newsrooms. (One anonymous exec literally pointed to the Washington Post as an example of places where the unions are running the show in a story that published one week before Jeff Bezos made its opinion section pull it’s Kamala endorsement.)
The package mostly made me mad. It’s so frustrating to hear so many execs who have been in the industry for so long say this, especially when so many seem dead set on making their employees lives as miserable as possible. My heart swelled with joy, then, when I saw the posts from the New York Magazine Union mimicking the format while talking specifically about how frustrating working at New York Magazine has been for them over the last few years. I encourage you to read through it. I hope they get a contract soon.
